Kite
A kite is a quadrilateral whose neighbouring sides form two different matching pairs.

What it means
Walk around the four sides. Two neighbouring sides match, and the other two neighbouring sides match. “Adjacent” means the equal sides meet at a corner; they are not across from each other.
Remember it
Equal sides meet in pairs: short–short at one corner and long–long at another.
Example
A quadrilateral has side lengths 4 cm, 4 cm, 7 cm, and 7 cm in that order around its boundary. The equal 4s touch and the equal 7s touch, so it is a kite under this definition.
Watch for
A rectangle has equal opposite sides, not two adjacent matching pairs, so that property does not make it a kite.
Common mix-up
