Term of a sequence
A term of a sequence is one number or object at a particular position in that sequence.
What it means
Each place in a sequence holds a term. A term has both a position and a value, and different positions can hold the same value. Unless a task states another convention, counting positions starts at 1.
Remember it
Position names the place; term names what is there.
Example
In the sequence 3, 8, 8, 15, the second term is 8 and the third term is also 8. The values match, but the positions are different.
Watch for
The word term also means a part of an algebraic expression separated by + or −. This card is only about terms in a sequence.
Common mix-up
The third term means the item at position 3; it does not have to be the number 3.
