A date identifies one calendar day by giving its day, month, and usually its year.
What it means
A date is like an address for one day. The day number finds the place inside the month, the month finds the part of the year, and the year finds which turn through the calendar. “5 November 2026” and “November 5, 2026” point to the same day even though their order differs.

Example
On a November 2026 calendar, Thursday the 5th is written 5 November 2026 in day–month–year order, November 5, 2026 in month–day–year order, and 2026-11-05 in ISO year–month–day order. Each names the same calendar day.
Watch for
8:15 is a time of day, not a complete calendar date. “05/11/2026” can be ambiguous unless the locale or order is known.
Common mix-up
Do not assume the first number is always the day: in month–day–year formats, it is the month.
