Fraction division
Fraction division is division in which the amount, the group size, or both are fractions.
What it means
Division still asks one of two questions: How many groups fit, or how much is in each group? In 3 ÷ 1/2, count half-size groups inside 3, giving 6. Multiplying by a reciprocal is a useful method in general, but the meaning remains groups or equal shares.

Keep the division question: groups fit, or amount in each group.
Example
How many 3/4-cup servings fit in 2 1/4 cups? Since 2 1/4 = 9/4 and (9/4) ÷ (3/4) = 3, there are 3 servings.
Watch for
Division by zero is undefined, so zero can never be the divisor.
Common mix-up
“Multiply by the reciprocal” is a calculation method, not the meaning of fraction division.
