Measuring jug
A measuring jug is a marked container used to measure liquid volume.
What it means
Put the jug on a level surface. First work out what each gap between marks is worth. Then look straight across at the liquid level and read the matching mark.

Level jug, count the gaps, read the liquid line.
Example
The labelled marks are 0 mL, 200 mL and 400 mL, with one equal mark halfway between each pair. Each small interval is 100 mL. Liquid at the mark between 200 mL and 400 mL measures 300 mL.
Watch for
A plain cup can hold liquid, but without a known scale it cannot give a reliable measured volume.
Common mix-up
Capacity is the most the jug can hold; the scale reading is how much liquid is in it now.
